| Description | The Farrington Bed & Breakfast is located in the historical Farrington Grove district of Terre Haute, Indiana and was built from 1898 to 1901. The facility brings with it a sense of nostalgia and old world comfort that is difficult to find in modern day lodging facilities. The Farrington has been restored to offer as much for the business person as it does for individuals who are looking for a romantic get-a-way or just a special time of rest and relaxation. It is also nicely equipped for weddings, receptions, family gatherings, business meetings, and private group luncheons and dinners. The overall style of the home is Colonial Revival but was adapted to the older Queen Anne form. The house is asymmetrical with jutting bays, porches, jutting gables, tall chimneys, and stained glass. The rear of the house has a second story porch often called a sleeping porch at the turn of the century because when the home was built it was considered healthful to sleep outside on hot summer nights. Since most people didn't want to pitch a tent in their front yard, or be caught in the yard in their night-clothes, second story open aired porches made sense. Over the years many of these porches were filled in and became another room. At the Farrington the second floor porches have been preserved and equipped with ceiling fans and lights. They now serve as private sitting areas for the guest rooms. |
